A letter from the president...
Welcome to Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County's website.
It represents who we are and what we do. We have seven philanthropic programs. Operation School Bell® is our primary program and provides new school-appropriate clothing and dental hygiene kits to kindergarten - 12th grade disadvantaged students in all ten school districts in San Luis Obispo County. In addition, each student clothed receives a grade-appropriate book and a tote filled with school supplies. In the 2017-18 school year, we clothed over 2,300 students in need.
Our funding comes from a variety of sources. Our chapter holds a biennial fashion show luncheon, a direct mailer "Warm Your Heart...Clothe a Child", and our most significant fund raiser - our beautiful Thrift Store located at 667A Marsh Street in San Luis Obispo. Other funding is provided by event sponsorships, grants and donations. All funds received stay within our County. Also, in order to continue to prosper, we are constantly evaluating our efforts, performance, and the needs of the community we serve.
We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation and operate in the same manner as for-profit corporations. We start by developing a strategic plan to meet our agreed upon goals, taking into consideration the time requirements and funding sources available. One cannot imagine the satisfaction gained by our volunteers when these goals are achieved, and not one dollar in salary has been paid, which is truly unique in the nonprofit world.
All of this would not be possible without the commitment made by our extraordinary and dedicated volunteers. Few of us have the opportunity to "make a difference" in the life of a child outside of our own family. Assistance League is the vehicle to do just that. Please click on our short video on our home Page to learn more about our organization and the various volunteer opportunities available. We also encourage you to consider attending one of our monthly membership meetings.
